Quality control (QC) is the contractor's definition of how the quality of the project will be managed during construction. Any unique project quality criteria must be documented in a project-specific document. It specifies who is accountable for meeting quality requirements and how to achieve this. It establishes a framework with clearly defined procedures and practices to guarantee that the final output meets or exceeds the quality requirements stated for the project.

However, quality assurance (QA) is described as the contractor's process or technique to ensure that the desired project quality is attained. This process describes the inspection requirements, the timing of the inspections, the written report, and who is to receive and review them, as well as, if any corrections are necessary, who will make them and how, as well as the follow-up procedures.
