38 & 40-FOOT DREDGING
JACKSONVILLE, FL W912EP-18-C-0012

Jacksonville FL dredging project

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Bar Cut Maintenance Dredging Project

Project Overview The Bar Cut Maintenance Dredging Project involves dredging at various locations from Bar Cut-3 through Cut-9 to maintain navigability and safety. The dredging work aims to restore the channel depth to 40 feet, with an allowable 2-foot over depth to account for future sedimentation. The dredged material will be placed in the Upland Disposal Area at Bartram Island Cell A. The project includes incidental work, such as monitoring endangered species and turbidity testing to ensure environmental compliance.

Dredging Operations

  • Scope of Work: The project involves maintenance dredging across several locations, specifically from Bar Cut-3 through Cut-9.
  • Depth Requirements: The dredging will achieve a depth of 40 feet, plus an additional 2 feet of allowable over depth, ensuring the channel remains navigable and safe for maritime traffic.
  • Material Removal: The sediment and material dredged from these cuts will be transported to the designated disposal site at Bartram Island Cell A, an upland disposal area designed to handle the dredged material.

Disposal and Environmental Considerations

  • Upland Disposal Area: The dredged material will be placed in Bartram Island Cell A. This upland disposal area is equipped to handle the volume of material generated by the dredging operations and is designed to minimize environmental impact.
  • Endangered Species Monitoring: The project includes rigorous monitoring of endangered species in the area to ensure that dredging activities do not harm local wildlife. Specific protocols are in place to protect these species during the project.
  • Turbidity Monitoring: Regular turbidity testing is conducted to monitor and control sediment dispersion in the water. This helps maintain water quality and protects the aquatic ecosystem from excessive sedimentation.

Incidental Work

  • Environmental Compliance: All dredging activities comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This includes measures to protect endangered species and ensure water quality.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Dredging activities, sediment dispersion, and environmental impact are continuously monitored and reported to ensure compliance and address any issues promptly.

TITAN’s Role and Contributions TitTITAN’s Consultants provided a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to the project, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of the dredging operations. Titan’s contributions included:

  • SiTitan’sty and Health Management:

    • We conduct regular safety inspections and assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
    • We coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices.
  • Environmental Compliance:

    • We are monitoring endangered species and turbidity levels to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
    • We are implementing protective measures to minimize the impact on local wildlife and aquatic ecosystems.
    • We coordinate with environmental agencies to ensure all environmental guidelines and regulations are adhered to.

Project Highlights

  • Scope of Work: Maintenance dredging from Bar Cut-3 through Cut-9 to 40 feet plus an additional 2 feet of allowable over depth.
  • Material Disposal: Placement of dredged material in the Upland Disposal Area at Bartram Island Cell A.
  • Environmental Focus: Monitoring of endangered species and turbidity to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Titan’s Contributions: Provision of the Safety and Health Officer, ensuring adherence to strict safety and environmental standards.

Through meticulous planning, execution, and management, Titan Consultants ensured the Bar Cut Maintenance Dredging Project was conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
