BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Delaware River Main Channel Deepening Project

Project Overview The Delaware River Main Channel Deepening project involves dredging approximately 4 million cubic yards of material from various portions of the Tinicum, Eddystone, Chester, Marcus Hook, and Bellevue Ranges of the Delaware River main channel. This extensive dredging operation, which began in March 2010, is part of a broader initiative to deepen the river channel to facilitate more efficient transportation of containerized, dry bulk (such as steel and slag), and liquid bulk (including crude oil and petroleum products) cargo to and from the Delaware River ports.

Project Timeline

  • Start Date: March 2010
  • Current Phase: Dredging expected to begin in August 2017
  • Completion Date: Project expected to be completed in 2018

Dredging Operations
