BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Big Bend Motor Control Center (MCC) Replacement Project

Project Overview The Big Bend MCC Replacement Project involves the comprehensive replacement of multiple Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and panelboards throughout the facility. The project aims to upgrade existing electrical equipment with modern solutions that meet or exceed current arc flash safety standards, enhancing overall operational efficiency and safety.

Scope of Work

  1. Demolition and Removal:

    • Existing MCCs and Panelboards: Remove outdated MCCs and panelboards from various locations within the facility. This includes disconnection, dismantling, and safe disposal of old equipment.
  1. Installation of New Equipment:

    • MCCs: Install new, state-of-the-art Motor Control Centers designed to improve control, monitoring, and protection for electrical systems. These new MCCs will comply with the latest arc flash standards to ensure safety and reliability.
    • Panelboards: Replace existing panelboards with modern units that offer enhanced functionality and meet current safety regulations. The new panelboards will have advanced controls and features for better performance and safety.
    • Controls and Components: Integrate updated controls and components into the new MCCs and panelboards to ensure seamless operation and compatibility with existing systems.
  2. Compliance and Safety:

    • Arc Flash Standards: Ensure that all new equipment and installations adhere to the latest arc flash safety standards to protect personnel and reduce the risk of electrical hazards.
    • System Testing: Conduct thorough testing of the new MCCs and panelboards to verify proper operation, functionality, and compliance with safety standards.
  3. System Integration:

    • Connection and Configuration: Connect the new MCCs and panelboards to the existing electrical infrastructure, configuring them for optimal performance and integration with facility systems.
    • Calibration and Adjustment: Calibrate and adjust controls and settings to ensure the new equipment’s accurate and efficient operation.
  4. Training and Documentation:

    • Operator Training: Provide facility personnel with training on the operation, maintenance, and safety features of the new MCCs and panelboards.
    • Documentation: Supply comprehensive documentation for the new equipment, including operation manuals, maintenance guidelines, and safety procedures.

Key Considerations

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and standards during installation and testing to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of the facility.
  • Minimized Disruption: Plan and execute the replacement work to minimize disruption to facility operations and ensure a smooth transition from old to new equipment.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all new equipment and installations meet high-quality standards and are reliable for long-term use.

Project Benefits

  • Enhanced Safety: The new MCCs and panelboards will improve safety by meeting updated arc flash standards and incorporating advanced protection features.
  • Increased Efficiency: Modern equipment will offer better performance, reliability, and control, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
  • Future-Proofing: Upgrading to state-of-the-art equipment ensures the facility can handle future technological advancements and operational demands.

The Big Bend Motor Control Center Replacement Project is designed to modernize and upgrade the facility’s electrical infrastructure, enhancing safety, performance, and efficiency in its operations.
