CHROME PLATING FACILITY
WATERVLIET, NY W912DS-21-C-0011

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Project Overview: Repair and Replacement of Large Caliber Chrome Plating Area

The project involves the comprehensive repair and replacement of major components within the large caliber chrome plating area, specifically focused on the 120 mm pit. This area is crucial for cannon tube plating and includes essential infrastructure such as chrome plating tanks, rectifiers, cold rinse tanks, and electropolish tanks. These facilities are organized into two plating lines to facilitate efficient operation and maintenance.

Scope of Work:

Chrome Plating Tanks and Equipment:

  • Upgrade and replace existing chrome plating tanks to enhance capacity and efficiency.
  • Install new rectifiers to ensure optimal electroplating processes and control.
  • Renew cold rinse tanks to support the plating process and maintain quality standards.
  • Replace electropolish tanks to improve surface finishing capabilities.

Plating Lines Rehabilitation:

  • Overhaul both plating lines to address operational inefficiencies and enhance reliability.
  • Upgrade control elements and instrumentation to enable precise process management.
  • Integrate modern control systems to monitor and regulate plating parameters effectively.

Pump Replacement:

  • Replace outdated pumps that have exceeded their useful life to improve reliability and performance.
  • Install new pumps designed to meet current operational demands and ensure consistent plating operations.

Project Execution:

  • Utilize the Design-Bid-Build approach to sequentially execute design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Engage qualified contractors and suppliers through competitive bidding to achieve cost-effective solutions.
  • Implement rigorous quality assurance and control measures to uphold industry standards and project specifications.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all refurbishment activities comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Implement necessary safety protocols and measures to protect personnel and mitigate operational risks.

Project Management:

  • Assign dedicated project management personnel to oversee scheduling, budgeting, and coordination.
  • Conduct regular progress assessments and stakeholder meetings to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Facilitate seamless communication among project stakeholders to address challenges and expedite decision-making.

Conclusion:

The repair and replacement of major components within the large caliber chrome plating area represent a critical infrastructure upgrade aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining high-quality standards for cannon tube plating. By modernizing equipment, upgrading control systems, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, this project seeks to sustain long-term reliability and functionality essential to military operations and defense capabilities.
