JC AREA 45 TRANSFORMER
EVERETT, WA N4425513D8014-0002

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The project involves the replacement of transformers and associated components in Area 45, focusing on the removal of old equipment and the installation of new transformers. Additionally, concrete repairs will be conducted on the existing tower footings in the area. Key elements of the project include:

Project Scope:

  1. Removal of Existing Equipment:

    • 2.5MVA Transformer Banks: Safe removal of the existing 2.5MVA transformer banks (2). This includes disconnecting and dismantling the transformers and ensuring proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Voltage Regulators and Buswork: Remove the existing voltage regulators and associated buswork. This step involves precise disassembly to avoid damage to surrounding infrastructure and ensure safety.

2. Installation of New Equipment:

    • New Transformers: New, state-of-the-art transformers will be installed to replace the old 2.5MVA transformer banks. The new transformers will be selected based on their efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with the existing electrical infrastructure.
    • Transformer Foundations: Construction of new foundations for the transformers. This includes excavation, formwork, pouring concrete, and ensuring the foundations meet all engineering specifications and standards.

3. Concrete Repairs:

    • Tower Footings: Concrete repairs are being conducted on the existing tower footings in Area 45. This involves assessing the footing’s condition, removing damaged concrete, and applying repair materials to restore structural integrity.

4. Electrical and Control Wiring:

    • Wiring and Connections: Install new electrical and control wiring to connect the new transformers and voltage regulators. This includes laying new cables, making precise electrical connections, and testing the system to ensure proper functionality.
    • Control Systems: Upgrading control systems to interface with the new transformers, ensuring seamless integration and reliable operation of the electrical network.

5. Demolition:

    • Demolition Work: Carefully planned demolition activities to remove the existing transformers, voltage regulators, and buswork. This includes ensuring the safe handling of materials and minimizing disruption to the surrounding area.

Role of TITAN Consultants:

TITAN Consultants played a crucial role in ensuring the quality and success of this project by providing a Project Quality Control Manager (PQCM). The responsibilities of the PQCM included:

  • Quality Assurance: Overseeing all aspects of the project to ensure that work is performed to the highest quality standards. This includes regular inspections, audits, and reviews of the construction and installation processes.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring all project activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. This involves maintaining detailed records and documentation of compliance efforts.
  • Coordination and Communication: Facilitating effective communication between project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and facility managers, ensures all parties are informed and coordinated.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct thorough inspections and tests of the new transformers, electrical wiring, and concrete repairs to verify that they meet specified requirements and are ready for operation.
  • Problem Resolution involves identifying and addressing quality issues or deviations from project plans. This involves working closely with the project team to implement corrective actions and meet project milestones.

Conclusion:

Replacing transformers and associated components in Area 45 is critical to modernize the electrical infrastructure and ensure long-term reliability and efficiency. Through careful planning, precise execution, and the diligent oversight of a TITAN-provided Project Quality Control Manager, the project ensures that all work is completed to the highest quality and safety standards. The comprehensive scope, from demolition to installation and concrete repairs, reflects a commitment to excellence and operational integrity.
