WATER SYSTEM

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Project Overview: The project spans from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) near the north end to the Grand Canyon Lodge in the south. Work encompassed various areas, including the WWTP vicinity, administration buildings, campground facilities, employee dining areas, the main road, and the lodge premises. Located along Highway 67, the project site ranges in elevation from 8,320 feet above sea level near the WWTP entrance to 8,220 feet at the Grand Canyon Lodge.

Scope of Work: TITAN Consultants were pivotal in providing the project’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Officer (SSHO) services and Quality Control (QC) Management. These roles were crucial in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and maintaining quality standards throughout the project.

Key Project Elements:

  1. Water Distribution System Upgrades:

    • We are upgrading portions of the 83-year-old potable water underground distribution system.
    • To enhance system efficiency and reliability, water mains, sub-mains, service laterals, and selected fire hydrants will be installed and replaced.

2. Infrastructure Improvements:

    • Implement new pipes, drains, fittings, and valves to modernize infrastructure and meet current standards.

3. Project Areas:

    • WWTP Area: Focus on infrastructure improvements and compliance with environmental standards within the wastewater treatment facility’s vicinity.
    • Administration and Lodge Areas: Enhancements to water distribution systems and infrastructure supporting visitor and administrative facilities.
    • Campground and Dining Areas: Upgrades to support operational needs and visitor facilities in these critical areas.

Safety and Quality Assurance: Under the SSHO and QC Management oversight provided by TITAN, the project maintained a robust safety protocol and quality assurance program. This included regular inspections, adherence to safety guidelines, and proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with project specifications.

Conclusion: TITAN’s involvement as SSHO and QC Management ensured the successful implementation of infrastructure upgrades and enhancements across multiple areas within the project site. By focusing on safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, TITAN contributed to improving and sustaining essential water distribution systems at the Grand Canyon, supporting operational needs and visitor experience.

  • Maintained MSDS to ensure no hazardous items were brought onto jobsite
  • Managed all phases of safety control
  • Conducted daily safety inspections
  • Conducted daily safety briefings and weekly toolbox talks
  • Kept list of deficient safety items and maintained list until all safety deficiencies were addressed
  • Coordinated with Government QA onsite for all safety items
  • Ensured public safety with additional warning signs and barriers
  • Maintained OSHA 300 Form and Daily Production reports
  • Kept photo logs of all safety issues
  • Attended pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings including preparatory inspection meeting, and periodic in-progress meetings
  • Enforced accepted APPS and AHAs
  • Spoke to local businesses and discussed safety issues with their patrons with our current operations
