BEALS, ME

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Dredging Project at Beals Harbor and Pig Island Gut, Maine

The dredging project at Beals Harbor and Pig Island Gut is a significant endeavor to improve maritime safety and efficiency in these critical waterways. The project involves extensive dredging operations to remove accumulated sediment and restore the depths of essential channels and anchorages.

Project Scope

The scope of work for this project includes:

  • Beals Harbor Dredging:

    • Volume: Approximately 83,000 cubic yards of sediment will be dredged.
    • Area: The dredging operations cover a 10-foot anchorage area measuring 800 by 500 feet.
    • Purpose: Restoring the anchorage to its designated depth to ensure safe and efficient vessel mooring and navigation.
  • Pig Island Gut Dredging:

    • Volume: Approximately 17,000 cubic yards of sediment will be dredged from shoaled portions.
    • Channel: The 6-foot channel is 80 feet wide.
    • Anchorage: Includes dredging of shoaled portions of the 6-foot anchorage.
    • Purpose: Maintaining the channel and anchorage at their designated depths to facilitate safe vessel movement and anchoring.
