BRIEF DESCRIPTION

USACE Pickwick Lock and Dam Mooring Cell Replacement Project

Project Overview The project involved demolishing and constructing a new mooring cell at Pickwick Lock and Dam. The work included removing an existing mooring cell and installing a new one of the exact dimensions within the original footprint.

Scope of Work

  1. Demolition:

    • Aggregate Removal: Remove and properly store the aggregate from the existing mooring cell.
    • Sheet Pile Removal: Dismantle and remove existing sheet piles associated with the old mooring cell.
    • Existing Cell Removal: Complete dismantling and removing the old mooring cell structure.
  2. Construction:

    • New Mooring Cell Installation: Construct a new mooring cell with a diameter of 30.5 feet and a height of 60 feet, maintaining the same footprint as the demolished cell.
    • Reinstallation of Sheet Piles: Install new sheet piles as part of the new mooring cell construction process.
  3. Safety and Planning:

    • Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO): TITAN provided an SSHO to oversee safety measures and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations throughout the project.
    • Preconstruction Plans: TITAN developed and provided detailed preconstruction plans to guide the demolition and construction processes, ensuring all activities were conducted efficiently and safely.

Key Considerations

  • Safety Compliance: Ensured adherence to safety regulations with the presence of an SSHO, addressing potential hazards and implementing safety protocols.
  • Environmental Protection: Managed and stored materials appropriately to minimize environmental impact and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinated demolition and construction activities to ensure a smooth transition between the removal of the old cell and the installation of the new one.

SSHO (Site Safety and Health Officer) Scope of Work

  • Maintained MSDS to ensure no hazardous items were brought onto jobsite
  • Enforced USACE EM 385-1-1 and held the project to OSHA standards
  • Maintained MSDS to ensure no hazardous items were brought onto the job site
  • Managed all phases of safety control
  • Conducted daily safety inspections
  • Conducted daily safety briefings and weekly toolbox talks
  • Kept list of deficient safety items and maintained list until all safety deficiencies were addressed
