Ice Harbor Dam Project Overview
Project Description The Ice Harbor Dam project is a comprehensive infrastructure development authorized by Congress. The facility encompasses a range of functions, including navigation, hydroelectric power generation, recreation, and incidental irrigation.
Project Components
Dam Structure:
- Length and Height: The Ice Harbor Dam extends 2,822 feet with an effective height of 100 feet.
- Type: A concrete gravity dam complemented by an earthfill embankment section at the north abutment.
Navigation Lock:
- Dimensions: The navigation lock has precise dimensions of 86 feet by 675 feet, facilitating efficient navigation.
Spillway:
- Structure: The dam features a 10-bay spillway measuring 590 feet long.
- Gates: It includes ten 50-foot tainter gates for effective water management.
Additional Facilities:
- Fish Ladders: Two fish ladders are incorporated to aid fish migration.
- Removable Spillway Weir: For adjustable water control.
- Juvenile Fish Bypass Facility: To ensure safe passage for juvenile fish.
