Scope of Work on Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement

As of 2026, the project is reaching its final phases, with an estimated completion date of April 14, 2026. The primary objective is to deepen the channel from its previous 46-foot depth to authorized depths of 51–56 feet, making Port Freeport the deepest port on the Texas Gulf Coast. Key technical improvements include:

Deepening & Widening: Extending the Outer Bar Channel by approximately one mile and deepening it to -58 feet, while enlarging the Brazosport Turning Basin to 1,200 feet.

Navigational Enhancements: Construction of a new turning notch, bend easing, and selective channel widening to accommodate larger, modern vessels.

Environmental Stewardship: Strategic placement of dredged materials in Offshore Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS) and beneficial-use areas to mitigate environmental impacts.
